I moved to England after finishing Art School in Michigan and worked as an artist, teaching part time at a private
school in Kent, southeast of London. My husband, Vaughan L. Smith, taught Pottery at a Comprehensive School and
set up a small pottery workshop in our house. In 1985, we moved back to the U.S. and established Westcote Bell Pottery,
selling our work at Art Fairs and through galleries across the country. We make tableware, decorative vessels, lamps
and tiles. I also finished a Master of Fine Arts in Printmaking at Ohio State University before we moved to High Falls, New
York and built a studio / showroom for Westcote Bell Pottery. We settled down here in the Hudson Valley with our family of cats
and chickens and expanded our work in clay to include sculptured ware, sinks, and tiles in addition to our tableware
and decorative pieces. My own background in painting and printmaking has led me to use the clay medium to work
on clay tiles by layering colors (both slips and underglazes) to create images of cats, chickens, gardens, houses, boats,
and places I have visited. I also continue to work in painting, printmaking, and illustration and enjoy the flow between
each medium. We moved to LaHave, Nova Scotia in 2011 and relocated our pottery studio here.
