Jacqueline M. Cohen, Ceramic Pieces for Westcote Bell Pottery.
Jacqueline Cohen and ceramic artist Vaughan Smith married in 1979 and after teaching in England for several years, established Westcote Bell Pottery. They combined their experience in Painting and Printmaking with Ceramics and have spent the last 30 years working in clay and developing unique ways of painting and applying surface decoration to a wide array of forms and tile. The pieces below are collaborations--Vaughan creates the thrown ware and Jacqueline carves the animals and heads. Both artists work on the glazing and texturing. These pieces are fired in a gas kiln which adds texture and subtlety to the ware.Carved areas are enhanced by the glaze while whimsical sculptures adorn the lids. Sponged glazes create patterns that melt and flow over and around the surface.Jacqueline also paints brightly colored tiles and bowls with underglazes on red clay that can be viewed on other pages of this website.Often the very figures that play on the surface of her paintings will appear in a stylized ceramic form. These pieces are all one of a kind works. Prices below do not include shipping. |
